Water supplies with elevated levels of heavy metals require specialized filtration. Our ADVANCED Combo filter combines our Advanced filtration formula with additional heavy metals removal, Lead removal media. Therefore making it ideal for households with high heavy metal (HM) contaminant levels.
HMG4 stands for Heavy Metals removal (HM, especially lead removal) and Gen4 Advanced media. It is combined into a single stage filtration unit. This is primarily for homes with a whole house sediment filtration system OR with low sedimentation levels that need Heavy Metals Removal.
Product Specifications:
Removal Capabilities: Our advanced filter removes 99.9% of lead, heavy metals, PFAS, chlorine and chromium 6. In addition, it removes mercury, volatile organic compounds, carcinogens, and other contaminants, turbidity, odors, and bad tastes. (claims tested by CLB Labs and are not certified by WQA).
Product Dimensions: 15.4″ X 3.6″ (7″ space needed with the hoses) X 2.52″
Application: Residential Point of use (POU). Same as our Gen4 ADV (WD-G4-DC) but with more heavy metal removal media.
System includes: WD-HMG4-REP cartridge. Head with a built-in shut off valve, inlet hose (3/8 female compression by 1/4 standard pipe thread), outlet hose (3/8 m compression by 1/4 standard pipe).
Common applications include; Woder WD-HMG4-DC with Gen4 Advanced Media (G4) and more heavy metal removal formula for higher than EPA’s recommended level of heavy metals. Point of use (POU) inline water filter for refrigerators, dedicated filtered water faucets (under sink), and RVs
Cartridge lifespan: 1 year under warranty.
Selective Filtration™ combined with additional heavy metal removal.
Heavy metals are present in all water supplies; however, excessive levels of heavy metals require filtration formulated to remove excess contaminants. The problem is they accumulate in the body and are difficult to remove. Our ‘Combo’ Filter is made for communities with reported increased levels of heavy metals.
Our proprietary Selective Filtration™ technology removes 99.9% of contaminants while leaving in all essential minerals. Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters also remove 99.9% of contaminants, however, RO also remove ALL the minerals found in tap water – including minerals your body needs. RO systems can waste thousands of gallons of water annually while flushing contaminants down the drain.
Woder Heavy Metal & Lead Removal Water Filter (WD-HMG4-DC)
The WD-HMG4-DC is a water filter for lead removal built around a combo cartridge: standard Gen4 Advanced media layered with a dedicated heavy-metal and arsenic removal stage. It’s designed for households that already know, typically through a water test, that lead or arsenic is showing up above where they’d like it. Rather than hoping standard filtration catches enough of it, this system adds media specifically engineered for that job.
When Elevated Lead or Arsenic Calls for Dedicated Media
The EPA sets maximum contaminant levels for lead, arsenic, and other heavy metals in drinking water, and while municipal systems are required to stay under those thresholds, older service lines, aging plumbing, and some private wells can still push levels higher locally, even when the water leaving the treatment plant tested clean. If a test has flagged elevated arsenic or heavy metal levels in your tap water, that’s the scenario this filter directly addresses.
What sets this apart from our standard Gen4 filter is the added media stage targeting heavy metals and arsenic specifically. It’s worth being precise here: the base Gen4 Advanced stage carries WQA Gold Seal certification, but the added heavy-metal and arsenic media is CLB Labs tested rather than WQA certified. This is a direct-connect-to-faucet system, installing on your under-sink cold-water valve the same way our other DC products do.
Selective Filtration vs. Reverse Osmosis and Installation
Selective Filtration is the technology doing the work here, and it’s worth understanding why that matters compared to reverse osmosis. RO systems force water through a membrane that strips out essentially everything, contaminants and minerals alike, along with wasting a meaningful volume of water in the process. Our media targets specific contaminants, lead, arsenic, chlorine, and the rest of the Gen4 removal list, while keeping calcium, magnesium, and other beneficial minerals right where they belong.
Getting it installed doesn’t require drilling into your counter or cabinet. It connects directly to the existing cold-water valve under your sink, following the same install process as the rest of our Direct Connect lineup, so most households handle it themselves with basic hand tools in under an hour. This filter is designed and packaged in the USA.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a heavy metal water filter?
A water test, either from your utility’s annual report or an independent lab, is the most reliable way to confirm elevated lead, arsenic, or other heavy metal levels before choosing a dedicated removal filter.
Does this filter remove arsenic and lead?
Yes, the added heavy-metal media stage is built specifically to target arsenic and lead, layered on top of the standard Gen4 Advanced cartridge’s broader contaminant reduction.
Is the WD-HMG4-DC certified to remove lead and arsenic?
The base Gen4 Advanced stage carries WQA Gold Seal certification. The added heavy-metal and arsenic removal media is CLB Labs tested, which is a different but still credible third-party verification standard.
What is the difference between this and Woder’s standard Gen4 filter?
This model adds a dedicated heavy-metal and arsenic removal media stage on top of the standard Gen4 Advanced cartridge, built for households with confirmed elevated levels rather than general filtration needs.
How is this filter installed?
It direct-connects to your existing under-sink cold-water valve, no drilling required, following the same install process as our other Direct Connect systems.
